Walk-In Advising for Students Exploring Majors & Our New Workshop Series

Academic Advising Services (AAS) provides Walk-in Advising in FYC Commons for students who are exploring undergraduate majors at NC State. Cross-curricular advisors can help students evaluate potential majors, navigate the on-campus transfer process (CODA), and plan appropriate coursework as students transition between majors.   Appointments are not available. To minimize wait times, advising sessions may be limited to 20 minutes per student.  (Please note: students who are planning to remain in their major need to see their assigned academic advisor).

WALK-IN ADVISING HOURS: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, 11 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and Wednesdays, 2-4 p.m., when the University is open. See below for evening hours in Talley.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the close of walk-in hours. Location:  2nd floor of FYC Commons (between the gym and Student Health Center on Cates Ave.)  After your advising session, you will be asked to complete a brief online survey of your advising experience in AAS. Thanks in advance!

1. Changing Your Major 101 - Exploring your Interests, Abilities, & Values

Wednesday, October 22, 7:00pm - 8:00pm, First Year College Commons-room 106

You think you may want to change your major, but you have no idea what to change it to?  This workshop will be the first of a three part Changing Your Major series that will inform NC State students what components are needed to be successful in a major and potential career. Examine your  interests, abilities and values; in conjunction with using O*Net (the Occupational Information Network).  Come find careers your interests align with!  Remember to bring your laptop for this workshop!

2. Changing Your Major 201 - Finding Majors at NC State that Match Your Interests & Potential Careers!

Monday, October 27th, 7:00pm - 8:00pm, First Year College Commons-room 108

You have found some careers that you are really interested in!  What can you major in at NC State to help you get to the finish line?  Bring your laptops and come learn about the campus resources that will assist you in getting into the major you desire! In the second part of our Changing Your Major series, NC State students will find more information on exploring majors and minors, using their degree audit, and the NC State Change of Degree Application (CODA).

3. Changing Your Major 301 - Planning the Classes for Your New Major!

Monday, November 3, 7:00pm - 8:00pm, First Year College Commons-room 108

So you've found out more about yourself, majors at NC State, and possible careers; now start planning for your future!  In the third part of our Changing Your Major series, NC State students will follow a matriculation worksheet that helps make sure you have everything you need to move forward with your new plan of study!  Do you have a realistic GPA to pursue this major?  Does this class count towards multiple majors I am considering?  Will I still be able to graduate in four years?  This workshop will help answer those questions, so you can succeed as you move forward!  Don’t forget to bring your laptops so you can receive help planning classes for your new plan!

**Please Note - The Changing Your Major series is designed for students to come to all 3 sessions, but we invite students to come as their schedule allows.  If you have any questions, please contact Justin Roe at JBRoe@ncsu.eduThis link will open in a new window
